About GIFB

‘Read’; It is the first word of Almighty Allah’s message to the humanity. Man is the only creature on earth who communicates using written words. The magic power of words enables man to acquire knowledge and preserve it, which is the key to human culture and civilization. But for the visually impaired individuals, this mode of communication was always a herculean task. There are more than one crore individual across the globe who are visually challenged and among them three lakh people are in Kerala. The most important thing is that one third of them are Muslims.

A majority of visually impaired are still illiterate due to the absence of opportunities and favorable circumstances. Lack of Islamic education attracted many of them to materialistic pleasures and many drifted away from Islam. This alarming situation prompted a group of religious and God fearing blind brothers to set up ‘Assabah Society for the Blind’. By the Almighty Allah’s grace, Assabah has been doing yeomen service to this weaker section of the community over the years by setting up a centre for learning Braille Qur’an and publishing Qur’an, Islamic books and a quarterly magazine in Braille language.

A team of religiously motivated youths from Pulikkal in Malappuram district under the leadership of Janab E.T. Muhammed Basheer M P provided all support and guidance for the activities of the society. By the grace of Allah, Assabah also started similar centres in other districts and was able to lead hundreds to the light of Holy Qur’an. In due course, the society felt the need for a platform to coordinate the activities of various centres of Assabah and to extend its services to people all over the world.

With the establishment of a Global Islamic Foundation for the Blind (GIFB), Assabah and its well wishers are looking forward for the fulfillment of a long term vision of setting up an international Qur’an learning centre for the visually impaired brothers across the world.

Two years passed since GIFB started its journey. As we all know, two years is too short to take the balance sheet of activities, especially for a global organization like GIFB. We are proud that we could do a lot for the visually challenged with the help our supporters.
